iMac Aluminium (20″ & 24″) A1224/A1225 2007–2009

Forensic Technical Intake: iMac Aluminium (A1224/A1225)

Target: 20-inch & 24-inch Models (2007–2009)

1. Primary Fault Classification

2. Device Condition (Day of Shipping)

Why we need this: The aluminum iMac uses a heavy **magnetic glass panel**. If the chassis is slightly warped or the glass isn’t seated perfectly before shipping, the vibrations of transit can cause the glass to crack or the internal LCD mounting tabs to snap.

3. Internal Power Supply (PSU) Diagnostics

AI Technical Insight: These iMacs contain an internal power supply that generates significant heat. Over time, capacitors in the PSU can fail (bulge), leading to a ‘No Power’ state or a faint high-pitched whining. Forensic indicators like ‘ticking’ suggest the PSU is trying to start but hitting a short on the logic board.

4. Graphics (GPU) & Thermal History

AI Technical Insight: The A1224/A1225 models use MXM graphics cards (ATI/NVIDIA) that are prone to solder joint failure due to thermal cycling. Forensic symptoms include vertical lines on the screen, ‘checkerboard’ patterns, or the Mac stalling halfway through the Apple logo progress bar.

5. Data Backup Status

Why we need this: These models use 3.5″ mechanical SATA hard drives. These drives have a high failure rate after 15+ years. The mechanical shock of shipping can cause a ‘head crash’ on an aging drive that was already struggling.

6. Previous Repair History

Why we need this: Opening these iMacs requires heavy-duty suction cups. If a previous repair was done by a non-professional, there is a risk of torn VSYNC cables or stripped LCD screws, which can drastically increase the complexity of our repair.

7. Mandatory Packaging Compliance

CRITICAL: Due to the weight (up to 11kg) and the front glass, these iMacs must not be shipped in a single-walled box. The responsibility for secure packing remains entirely with the customer. Use a double-walled box with 4 inches of padding. If the stand is not supported, it can punch through the box. Seek professional guidance on large-format shipping.
