Workstation Hardware Repairs

Technical hardware diagnostics and repair for professional desktop and laptop workstations, including processors, memory, graphics, storage, cooling, power, motherboards and workstation expansion hardware.

Professional Workstation Hardware Repair

Professional workstations are built around higher-performance components and are often used continuously for demanding workloads. A hardware fault can therefore have a significant effect on CAD, engineering, architecture, 3D modelling, rendering, video production and other professional applications.

Green Tech Repairs investigates workstation hardware faults systematically to identify the component or system condition responsible for the problem. We do not simply replace expensive components without first establishing whether the evidence supports doing so.

This service covers professional desktop workstations and mobile laptop workstations. It does not cover servers or rack-mounted server equipment.

Processor & CPU Faults

Processor problems can cause instability, overheating, crashes, poor performance or failure to start.

  • CPU-related instability
  • Processor overheating
  • High CPU temperatures
  • Performance degradation
  • Thermal throttling
  • Failure to boot where CPU-related hardware is suspected
  • CPU compatibility assessment

Memory & ECC RAM

Workstations can use substantial memory capacities, and some professional platforms support ECC memory. Faulty or incompatible memory can produce difficult-to-diagnose system instability.

  • RAM fault diagnosis
  • ECC memory faults
  • Memory instability
  • Incorrect memory detection
  • Boot failures
  • Application crashes
  • Memory compatibility assessment

Professional Graphics Hardware

Professional graphics hardware can be critical to CAD, 3D, rendering, visualisation and video workloads.

  • GPU instability
  • Graphics hardware faults
  • Graphics performance problems
  • GPU overheating
  • Display output problems
  • Graphical corruption
  • Professional GPU compatibility assessment

Storage & NVMe SSD Hardware

Fast and reliable storage is essential for many workstation workloads. Hardware storage faults can affect booting, application loading, file access and overall performance.

  • NVMe SSD faults
  • SSD hardware faults
  • Storage detection problems
  • Boot drive faults
  • Storage performance problems
  • Additional storage assessment
  • Storage upgrade compatibility

Cooling & Thermal Hardware

Sustained workstation workloads can place heavy demands on CPU and GPU cooling. Cooling problems can reduce performance and cause instability.

  • CPU cooler problems
  • GPU cooling problems
  • Cooling fan faults
  • Excessive operating temperatures
  • Thermal throttling
  • Performance loss under sustained load
  • Cooling system assessment

Power Supply & Power Delivery

High-performance workstations require appropriate and stable power delivery, particularly where powerful CPUs and GPUs are installed.

  • Power supply faults
  • Failure to power on
  • Unexpected shutdowns
  • Restarting under heavy load
  • GPU power problems
  • Power-related instability
  • Power supply suitability assessment

Motherboard & Core Hardware

The motherboard provides the foundation for the workstation and connects the processor, memory, storage, graphics and expansion hardware. Problems affecting these areas can cause anything from intermittent instability to complete failure to start.

  • Boot and POST problems
  • Memory detection problems
  • Storage detection problems
  • Expansion slot problems
  • USB hardware faults
  • PCIe-related hardware problems
  • Hardware compatibility problems
  • Component communication faults

Graphics, Displays & Multi-Monitor Hardware

Many professional workstations operate multiple high-resolution displays or rely on dedicated graphics hardware. A display fault therefore requires more than simply checking whether a monitor is switched on.

  • GPU hardware diagnosis
  • Display output faults
  • Multiple monitor problems
  • DisplayPort and HDMI output problems
  • Intermittent display signal
  • Black-screen problems
  • Graphical corruption
  • GPU overheating
  • Graphics hardware compatibility

Workstation Expansion Hardware

Professional desktop workstations can contain multiple expansion cards and high-speed interfaces. Hardware faults can occur within the expansion device itself or through compatibility, power, thermal or connection issues.

  • PCIe expansion hardware
  • Professional graphics cards
  • Additional storage controllers
  • Network adapters
  • USB expansion hardware
  • Audio hardware
  • Expansion card compatibility
  • Power and clearance considerations

Hardware Performance Problems

A workstation can remain operational while suffering from a hardware problem that only appears under sustained or demanding workloads.

  • Performance drops under load
  • Thermal throttling
  • Intermittent crashes
  • Unexpected restarts
  • Application failures under load
  • Hardware instability

Hardware Compatibility

Workstation components must be compatible with the specific platform. We assess relevant compatibility before recommending replacement or upgrade hardware.

  • CPU socket compatibility
  • Memory type and platform support
  • ECC support where applicable
  • PCIe compatibility
  • GPU clearance
  • Power requirements
  • Cooling requirements
  • Storage interface compatibility

Desktop & Laptop Workstation Hardware

Desktop workstations generally provide greater access to internal components and more upgrade possibilities. Laptop workstations are more compact and may use manufacturer-specific components, integrated hardware or components that are not designed to be upgraded.

We therefore assess the exact workstation model before recommending any component replacement or upgrade. This prevents unsuitable hardware from being specified simply because it appears to fit the general category.

Important Repair Limitation

Green Tech Repairs does not provide board-level soldering, micro-soldering, component-level soldering or motherboard chip-level repair.

Where a workstation hardware fault requires this type of specialist board-level work, we will explain the limitation rather than claim to provide a repair service that we do not offer.

Hardware Diagnostic Process

  • We establish the symptoms and circumstances of the hardware fault.
  • We identify the workstation model and relevant hardware configuration.
  • We inspect the system and investigate the reported symptoms.
  • We test relevant hardware according to the symptoms presented.
  • We assess temperatures, stability, storage, memory, graphics and power where relevant.
  • We identify the likely failed, unsuitable or problematic component.
  • Where replacement or upgrade hardware is required, compatibility is assessed before it is recommended.
  • Required repair or upgrade work is quoted before proceeding.

Workstation Hardware Repair Query

Tell us about the workstation hardware problem. If you know the specification, include the CPU, RAM, GPU, storage and power supply information where possible.

We will assess the information provided and advise on the next appropriate step. Repair or upgrade work is not undertaken without agreement on the required work.
