Packaging Guide: Rugged Laptop
1. Preparation
- System State: Fully shut down. Disconnect all external field-equipment connectors (RS-232, BNC, etc.).
- Port Security: Ensure all I/O dust covers are snapped shut and sealed. Loose covers can be damaged or lost in transit.
- Chassis Integrity: Inspect rubberized bumpers for signs of wear; wrap the unit in reinforced protective foam to prevent friction damage to these specialized surfaces.
2. The Box-in-Box Method
- Inner Box: Use a rigid, crush-resistant inner container. Wrap the unit in 8cm of high-density protective foam.
- Outer Box: Use a heavy-duty, industrial-grade double-wall box that provides 16cm of clearance on all sides.
- Cushioning: Use high-density industrial foam blocks; the laptop must be fully immobilized to withstand potential high-impact handling.
3. Labelling & Documentation
- Fragile Labelling: Affix “FRAGILE – RUGGED EQUIPMENT” and “HANDLE WITH CARE” labels on all sides.
- Documentation: Include your full name, return address, and service reference inside the box.
Important: Ensure full insurance coverage, as rugged laptops often contain high-value proprietary field modules.
