Ultrabook Faults Checklist
Device Identification
Identify the specific slim-profile device:
Battery & Power
- Battery swelling (Chassis bulging/Trackpad stiff)
- USB-C Charging port loose or intermittent
- Modern Standby failure (Laptop hot in bag)
- Voltage hiss/whine during idle
Chassis & Hinge
- Hinge clicking or uneven resistance
- Bottom case screws missing or stripped
- Lid alignment (Doesn’t close flush)
- Magnetic sensor failure (Screen won’t wake)
Connectivity
- Wi-Fi signal drops when lid is moved
- Bluetooth mouse/headphone stuttering
- Thunderbolt dock connection instability
Display & Touch
- White pressure spots on LCD
- Touchscreen ghosting/phantom clicks
- Screen flickering at low brightness
- Edge bleeding (Light leaking from bezel)
Keyboard & Trackpad
- Sticky keys (Dust/debris under butterfly/scissor mechanism)
- Trackpad not clicking or erratic tracking
- Fingerprint/Face ID login failure
Liquid & Spill Evidence
Has there been exposure to liquid?
Observation (e.g., sticky keys, port corrosion):
Storage & RAM (Soldered)
- Soldered RAM failure (Random BSODs)
- SSD Read/Write slowing down
- BitLocker / TPM security lockout
Thermal & Noise
- Fan high-pitched whistling or grinding
- System throttling (Lagging when hot)
- Heatsink saturation (Top of keyboard is burning hot)
