Packaging Guide: PlayStation 2

1. Preparation

  • Media Removal: Ensure no game disc is in the tray or drive. The optical assembly is highly sensitive to impact, and a disc can cause significant internal damage if shifted.
  • Chassis Preservation: Wrap the console in acid-free paper to protect the finish, followed by a heavy layer of protective bubble wrap.
  • Controller/Cable Management: Disconnect all peripherals. Coil cables loosely; do not wrap them tightly around the console.

2. The Box-in-Box Method

  • Inner Box: Wrap the console in 6cm of anti-static bubble wrap and place it securely in a rigid inner carton.
  • Outer Box: Use a new, double-wall corrugated box that provides 14cm of clearance on all sides.
  • Cushioning: Fill all voids with high-density foam blocks to immobilize the unit completely.

3. Labelling & Documentation

  • Fragile Labelling: Affix “FRAGILE – VINTAGE ELECTRONICS” and “HANDLE WITH CARE” labels on all sides.
  • Documentation: Include your full name, return address, and service reference inside the box.

Important: Do not use adhesive tape on the console casing, as this can damage the aging surface texture or plastic finish.
