Packaging Guide: PlayStation 1

1. Preparation

  • Media Removal: Ensure no game disc is left in the tray. The optical assembly is highly delicate and vulnerable to impact if a disc is present.
  • Chassis Preservation: Vintage plastics are brittle; wrap the console in a layer of acid-free paper before applying protective bubble wrap.
  • Cable Management: Remove all controller and video cables. Coil them loosely to prevent stress fractures in the insulation.

2. The Box-in-Box Method

  • Inner Box: Wrap the console in 6cm of anti-static bubble wrap and place it in a rigid, custom-fit inner carton.
  • Outer Box: Use a new, double-wall corrugated box that provides 14cm of clearance on all sides.
  • Cushioning: Use high-density foam blocks to completely immobilize the device.

3. Labelling & Documentation

  • Fragile Labelling: Affix “FRAGILE – VINTAGE ELECTRONICS” and “HANDLE WITH CARE” labels on all sides.
  • Documentation: Include your full name, return address, and service reference inside the box.

Important: Do not apply adhesive tape directly to the console casing, as this can degrade the surface finish of the aged plastic.
